Do you know @America? Today's Opening @America - U.S. Tech Culture Center First in the World Opens in Jakarta 02 December 2010. Jakarta - After U.S. President Barack Obama's visited Indonesia, the U.S. government
turned out to have chosen Indonesia as the location of the cultural center of the first American high-tech in the world.
Cultural center that is named @ america it is a new American cultural center, featuring high technology and sophisticated design. This is the place to learn about American culture, diversity, history, education and American innovation. It's futuristic and lesspapper (means no papper or book.. touchscreen, ipad, etc) all using technology to know closely America.
Located at Pacific Place Mall 3rd Floor, Unit 325, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53 Jakarta 12190, @ america is an area of 600 square meters. This is a place for programs and events in which the citizens of Indonesia and the United States can establish relationships and strengthen relationships.
This facility also will unite Indonesia's young people, together with young American citizens using American technology as a vehicle to create dialogue.
@ America projector is equipped with 21 units measuring 1.6 mx 1.2 m to 5.22 m x 2.25 m. There are also 22 units also monitor a 17 "to 42". Coupled with 50 units measuring 9.7 iPad ".
There is also a unit of the smart board size of 50 "which is the interactive white board with touch screen controls as well as 3 Telepresence units sized 65" which is a three-screen interactive video displays directly. @ America also has a special room theater-like space where visitors can watch the movie as in theaters.
@ america will be officially opened today, an American cultural center in the world's first high-tech. Selection of Indonesia as the location of the U.S. cultural center is not separated from the status of Indonesia as one of the largest democracies in the world.
"Indonesia is the world's third largest democracy. Indonesia is also the largest Muslim country in the world. Plus Indonesia is the second largest number of Facebook users in the world," said Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Ted Osius in @ america.
@ America that construction is carried out since this past 1.5 years are directly under Embassy (Embassy) United States in Jakarta. Through @ america, the U.S. Embassy wanted to reach more young people of Indonesia to know more about America.
"Indonesia is an important country in the eyes of the U.S. so we consider this very important built in Indonesia. It is possible we will build a cultural center similar in other countries, but currently our focus to Indonesia," said Don Q. Washington, who served the U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Advisor told AFP when visited @ america, Wednesday (10/11/2010).
U.S. Embassy chose the mall as a place of establishment @ america because many young people visited the mall in Jakarta. "Where do they go every weekend? Go to the mall. That's why we chose this location to better reach them," said Jason P. Rebholz, Deputy Cultural Attache U.S. Embassy told AFP.
"We are open 7 days a week, starting at 10 am to 9 pm," he added. He said, @ new america will be officially opened today 02 December 2010.
Later it was inaugurated, @ america will be open to the public and free of charge. "Everybody can come here and use all existing facilities," said Jason. "Later we will also hold special events such as film screenings, discussions and more," he added.
One of the first major event held @ america is Live Special Screening Obama's speech on the campus of the University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok. Through the giant projector screen, visitors can hear and watch Obama's speech very clearly. @ America also conduct video conferences with several students and faculty staff at the University of Hawaii, USA.
