Out! Cricketer Dominic Cork is out of the game after celebrities vote to save Jeff Brazier on Dancing On Ice

By EMILY SHERIDAN

Tense: Jeff Brazier and Isabelle Gauthier (left) managed to survive being voted off Dancing On Ice at the expense of Dominic Cork and his partner Alexandra Schauman

He may score on the cricket field, but England batsman Dominic Cork's skating wasn't enough to keep him on Dancing On Ice tonight.

In a cruel twist, his fellow celebrity contestants on were asked to choose between the 39-year-old and TV presenter Jeff Brazier when both ended up in the bottom two.

Jeff and Dominic ended up in the skate-off after receiving the lowest amount of votes from the public, but this time it was the contestants instead of the judging panel who decided who to save.

Decision time: Each celebrity had to choose between Jeff and Dominic, with most claiming they believed the former had more to give in the competition

In the end, Cork received three votes from his fellow celebrities compared to six for Brazier.

Kerry Katona and Denise Welch just managed to escape the skate-off despite receiving the lowest scores of the night.

First up to skate was Chloe Madeley, 23, and her French partner Michael Zenezini who put on a leather-clad dance to Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'N' Roll and received 19.5, her highest score ever.

Scrapping through: Kerry Katona and Daniel Whiston and Denise Welch and Matt Evers just managed to escape elimination - despite being joint bottom of the leaderboard

Waiting for the ice pick: The contestants wait to hear their fate

Robin told her: 'I love the way you are attacking every element of every performance.'

Emma added: 'You've being brave, entertaining, if you keep this up you'll be in this show for a long time.'

War hero Johnson Beharry VC ended up doing some training with the Ballet Boys dance company during the week to help him shake off some of his military-honed stiffness.

Don't let go: Chloe and Michael's routine received her highest score ever 19.5

The 31-year-old and his Canadian partner Jodeyne Higgins performed to Bob Marley's One Love, receiving 13.0.

Emma said: 'There is a little bit of connection missing between the two of you, but you've got rhythm baby!'

Next up was TV presenter Jeff Brazier, 31, and his Canadian partner Isabelle Gaunthier, who did their first big lift during their ice dance to Jack Johnson's Better Together.

'You've got rhythm baby': War hero Johnson Beharry VC loosened up a bit for his reggae routine to Bob Marley with Jodeyne Higgins

At the beginning of the dance, he had a slight trip on the floor, but quickly got up and went on to score a 12.5.

Brazier blamed his fall on the the Tottenham Hotspurs football loss earlier in the day.

Jason commented: 'It was better than you've ever done until the fall. You did recover very well.'

Good recovery: Despite his slip-up, Brazier quickly recovered and carried on his routine

Kerry Katona, 30, wore a racy lace catsuit for her dance with English partner Daniel Whiston to Rihanna's Disturbia.

She received her lowest score ever - a 10.0 compared to previous weeks 14s.

Jason said: 'You're doing lots of lifts, you're very reliant. It's not a partnership, it's a dependency. You're too dependent, you're using Daniel as a crutch.

'Too dependent': All three judges agreed Kerry was using Daniel 'as a crutch' on the ice and had yet to show her skating skills properly

'Choreography was all over the place. During one move, it looked like you were having an internal examination.'

He clashed again with head coach Karen Barber, who told him: 'Every week you appear to be here to offend people.'

Robin also noted Kerry wasn't doing enough by herself and needed to show her skating skills in future.

Vanilla Ice - real name Rob Van Winkle - relived his injury in the week when he got some stitches by his eye and admitted the crash had affected his confidence on the ice.

The American rapper, 43, and English partner Katie Stainsby performed to Bon Jovi's Always - which he openly admitted wasn't a song he would chose to dance to.

The judges all noted he was a bit tentative on the ice, but said it was completely understandable and gave him a total score of 16.0.

Knee glide: Vanilla Ice and Katie Stainsby's routine to Bon Jovi's soft rock ballad Always received a total of 16.0

Jason told him: 'You're a terrific partner, you're very considerate. Just watch your arms, you look like you're searching for something in the dark. Refine them a bit.'

Next up was England cricketer Dominic Cork, 39, and Finnish partner Alexandra Schauman dancing to The Who's I Can See For Miles in Union Jack clothing.

Last week he ended up in the skate-off but was given a boost by former teammate Freddie Flintoff, who brought his children to watch Cork in the audience.

Patriotic: Cricketer Dominic Cork and Finnish partner Alexandra Schauman's routine to The Who's I Can See For Miles received 11.0

Jason gave a cutting commentary after giving Cork the same 3.0 score every week: 'The thing I like about your performance is when it's over. It's not improving, it's not moving on.'

Robin said: 'I'm going to disagree. I do feel from a skating point of view it's good.'

Children's TV presenter Laura Hamilton, 28, and Canadian partner Colin Ratushniak put on a passionate performance to Shakira's Whenever, Wherever.

Tricky: Laura attempted the difficult 'wrist ripper' move, but didn't finish it smoothly

The dance involved a tricky move called the 'wrist ripper' which she had struggled with throughout rehearsals, but just about to manage to pull off without crashing to the ice.

The pair scored a 20.0, including a huge 7.5 from Jason, who enthused: 'I loved the dynamic, it was fully charged, you all had the nuances. I love watching the two of you.'

Head judge Robin gave her a slightly lower mark, explaining: 'It's fantastic to see the gusto with which you attack everything. To have you at this level so soon in the competition is brilliant.'

Harsh words: Jason Gardiner asked 'where is the emotion?' to Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe as she performed a romantic routine to Dionne Warwick's Anyone Who Had A Heart with Sylvain Longchambon

Actress Jennifer Metcalfe and French partner Sylvain Longchambon danced to Dionne Warwick's Anybody Who Had A Heart.

The Hollyoaks star, 27, scored a total 0f 18.5, including a 7 from Robin.

Emma explained: 'There is something lacking, it feels like you're not selling it as much as you can. I would like to see you skate a bit more independently.'

Jason said: 'You're an actress... but where was the emotion?'

Mellow yellow: Loose Women presenter Denise Welch and partner Matt Evers scored 10.0 for their routine to Rumer's Slow

Loose Women presenter Denise Welch, 52, and partner Matt Evers were next to dance to newcomer Rumer's song Slow and received a total score of 10.0
Explaining his low score: 'From last week it had marginally improved. Your lines are still needing to be improved, coming out of stuff you're still a bit clunky.'

Robin added: 'A few little errors, a few little wobbles... it actually played to your strengths.'

Fabulous in fuchsia: Sam and Brianne scored 25.0 for their fast-paced routine to Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love

The strongest in the competition, Sam Attwater and Brianne Delcourt - who he is now dating - performed in fuchsia to Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

The EastEnders actor and his Canadian partner were miles ahead on the leader board with 25.0 - the same score as last week.

Phillip Schofield asked them to confirm if they're in a romance and the embarrassed couple said: 'Errr, ummm,' leaving him to declare 'I take it as a yes then.'

Going country: 'Comedy' Dave Vitty and Frankie Poultney received 11.0 for their routine to Achy Breaky Heart

Jason enthused: 'You're like skating Viagra. It's very exciting and everything rises when you step onto the ice.'

Emma mused: 'You're finding this a bit easy, you're making it look easy. I think maybe you're holding back a bit and you've got more to give.'

Radio 1 presenter 'Comedy' Dave Vitty was the last to perform with partner Frankie Poultney to Billy Ray Cyrus's Achy Breaky Heart, scoring a total of 11.0.

Jason said: 'It fascinates me that someone who is so committed is just so average. You're somebody that's so engaging but you're not every good.'
• Dancing On Ice returns to ITV1 on Sunday 6th February at 6.30pm.

Simon Baker eclipses Hugh Laurie as top paid actor in a U.S. TV drama series in £280,000 an episode deal for The Mentalist

By PAUL THOMPSON

Nice work if you can get it: Simon Baker will be paid £280,000 per episode for The Mentalist, eclipsing Hugh Laurie's £258,000 per episode for U.S. show House

Actor Simon Baker will shoot to the top of the highest paid actors on U.S. TV with a new deal that will net him an estimated pds280,000 for each episode of The Mentalist.

The Australian star will eclipse Hugh Laurie in House and Laurence Fishburn in CSI as the top paid actors in a drama series.

Baker had been receiving £180,000 for each episode of the hit crime series in which he plays a psychic with unusual powers of observation.

As well as solving crimes he is also hunting for a serial killer called Red John who killed his wife and family.

Hollywood insiders said the new deal is worth up to £20m and guarantees Baker will stay with the show for another three seasons.

Pay rise: The Australian actor had been receiving £180,000 for each episode of the crime series in which he plays a psychic with unusual powers of observation

As part of the new pay package being negotiated with Warner Bros television Baker will get a producer credit on the show.

He will also get a slice of any profits from syndicating the show to other TV stations in the U.S. and worldwide.

The Mentalist, which began in 2008, is one of the most popular shows on US TV and is also screened on Channel Five in the UK.

Hit show: British actor Laurie in the American drama series House

Top comedy earner: Charlie Sheen earns £800,000 per episode for Two And A Half Men

The new deal will see Baker,41, on an estimated £6.5m a year.

It means British star Hugh Laurie has lost his place at the top of the list of highest paid TV dramatic actors.

The 51 year old was the top paid TV star earning just over £258,000 per episode of House.

All three TV actors have a long way to go before they can surpass top comedy earner Charlie Sheen who makes £800,000 per episode of Two and a Half Men.

Baker, who owns two homes in Australia but spends most of his time in Los Angeles with his wife, Rebecca Rigg and three children, began his career on the soap Home and Away.

He also appeared in LA Confidential, but The Mentalist marked his breakthrough role on U.S. TV.

Who's that singing? Matt Smith and Karen Gillan belt out a carol in sneak behind-the-scenes peek at Doctor Who Christmas special

By JODY THOMPSON

A merry little Christmas: Katherine Jenkins, left, guest stars in the Doctor Who Christmas special alongside Michael Gambon, centre, and Matt Smith, right

It's become as much a part of the celebrations as pudding, opening presents and the Queen's Speech - and now the cast of this year's Doctor Who Christmas special have revealed a sneak peak of just how festive it gets behind the scenes.

The Doctor himself Matt Smith, 28, plus Karen Gillan, 23, who plays sidekick Amy Pond, belt out Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas accompanied by Arthur Darvill, 28, who plays Amy's husband Rory Williams, on piano.

The bit of backstage silliness will be screened on BBC3's Doctor Who Confidential, on at 7pm after the main event on BBC1 - and proves that red-headed Amy has a quite an impressive set of lungs, even if she doesn't manage to quite hit the high notes.

On song: Doctor Who's Karen Gillan, Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill (on the piano bottom right) belt out their rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas in a sneak peak of this weekend's Doctor Who Confidential on BBC Three

In fact, the trio pretty much murder the festive favourite, made famous by Judy Garland in the musical Meet Me In St Louis - but it's all part of the fun of the Christmas Confidential special.

As well as the seasonal singsong, it's set to show all the behind-the-scenes merriment of a good old-fashioned Doctor Who Christmas, which makers are promising will be extra-special this year.

Called Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, it's based around the Charles Dickens classic and guest stars 20-year-old opera diva Katherine Jenkins as Abigail Pettigrew and Harry Potter star Michael Gambon, 70, as Kazran.

In Doctor Who Confidential, Matt and the cast are to show fans around the show's Cardiff sets and go backstage with the stars of the Dickensian Christmas special.

Michael Gambon meanwhile will also talk about swapping his wizard's wand for a taste of the Doctor's time-travelling magic, Katherine Jenkins waxes lyrical about her acting debut, plus there are interviews with show writer Steven Moffat.

Special guests: Katherine Jenkins joins the cast as Abigail Pettigrew, joined by Michael Gambon as Kazran

Katherine has said of the show: 'This Christmas special is the most Christmassy Doctor Who that they've ever had.

'It has all the brilliant scientific and all the excting parts of DW that it normally has, but there is also running through it a quite emotional heartbreaking story and it's very closely linked to a Christmas Carol.

'People will be moved and relate to it. We've not set out to make people cry over their Christmas dinner, but it's heartwarming.'

'The Doctor is going pretty wild on Christmas day 'cos he's excited. As a Christmas treat, it would be pretty high on my list!'

Though he added darkly: 'There is a shark involved though, yes.'

That's better! Cheryl Cole actually performs live with acoustic set for appearance on Alan Carr's Chatty Man

By CHRIS JOHNSON

Hitting the right note: Cheryl Cole performed live twice for her appearance on Alan Carr's Chatty Man, which was screened on Channel 4 last night

She caused controversy after miming for two years running on the X Factor.

But last night, Cheryl Cole gave her vocal chords some exercise - with two live acoustic performances as she made an appearance on Alan Carr's show, Chatty Man.

The 27-year-old star began with a pared down rendition of her No.1 single Promise This, which she performed this year on the X Factor.

Looking good: She started with a acoustic version of Promise This, left, wearing a black cut away dress split to the thigh and, right, singing her new song The Flood in a white gown

She was heavily criticised at the time, after it appeared she was lip-syncing large sections of the track during the high-energy dance routine.

It also emerged that the performance was pre-recorded, with X Factor chiefs saying it would have been logistically problematic to have done it live within the show.
This time round, however, Cheryl was clearly singing every word as she stood centre stage in a stunning cutaway black dress.

Feeling festive: The X Factor judge said she was looking forward to spending some time off this Christmas

After being interviewed by Carr, she then finished off with another live performance of her new track, The Flood.

Having earlier changed into a stunning white gown, the Girls Aloud star was accompanied by a couple of backing singers who helped her hit the high notes during the chorus.

The interview itself was punctuated with a series or awkward moments, when Cheryl was subjected to Carr's crude questioning style.

Taken aback: Cheryl was full of laughter and shock as she was subjected to Carr's crude questioning style

That's got a good kick: The host gave the star her favourite drink to sip on during the interview, a Martini with passion fruit

The singer is planning to spend some time out over the festive season, saying Christmas is her favourite time of the year.

'I'll be taking some time out with my doggies, [spending some time with the] family, [eating] Christmas pudding and turkey sandwiches,' she said.

In 2009, Cheryl was criticised for seemingly miming huge chunks of Fight For This Love which she performed on the X Factor.

Oh dear! Cheryl came over all bashful and embarrassed when Carr questioned her about the sexual chemistry between herself and Simon Cowell

'Fingers crossed,' she said. 'We will see what happens.'

She is now recovering at her parents' house in North London with her arm in a sling, giving 28-year-old Artem the opportunity to take care of her.

'I think we are going to literally not go anywhere today. It'll be quite nice,' she said this morning.

'He's going to cook for me in my mum and dad's kitchen. They've met him and they all get on so well.'

And it seems Artem's family feel the same about Miss Tointon.

Speaking from their home in Izhevsk, Mrs Chigvintsev, 60, said of Kara, who she has not yet met: 'She looks really great. They make a beautiful couple which fills my heart with pride and joy.

'I respect my son's choice. He's very fond of her, and she seems to like him too.'

The tension mounts: Kara and Artem and Matt and Aliona wait to find out who has won the competition

'I have made the most wonderful friend for life and this has been the most special experience of my life.

He returned the compliment, adding: 'Thank you, Kara, you're amazing.'

When she found out she and Artem had won, the former EastEnders star burst into tears before hugging Matt Baker and Aliona Vilani.

Despite falling at the final hurdle, finalist Matt said he was thrilled with the result, saying: 'It's been graet. I have absolutely thoroughly enjoyed tonight, and Kara and Artem are worthy winners. If I was at home, I would be voting for Kara as well.'

The show must roll on: Newly-divorced Eva Longoria continues married life on Desperate Housewives

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Not so glam: Eva Longoria shotos a scene for Desperate Housewives in rollers and a robe

The ink may be still drying on her divorce, but on screen, Eva Longoria is still very much a married woman.

New stills of the upcoming episode of Desperate Housewives have emerged showing the actress as her sassy on-screen alter-ego, Gabrielle Solis.

The show is set to return to U.S. televisions on February 20 after a hiatus.

All smiles: Eva looks happy for the cameras but in private her divorce was finalised this week
In the upcoming episode, called Farewell Letter, Eva is seen with rollers in her hair and a glamorous silky robe.

The new episode sees Gaby revisiting her home town as part of her therapy.
Gaby finds herself being treated as a celebrity, but one person doesn't like her - her old school teacher, Sister Marta.

She doesn't believe Gaby's claims that her stepfather molested her.

It's complicated: Mike, Zach's biological father drives, while Paul, his adopted father, tries to reason with Zach

The new episode also includes dramatic scenes between Paul, played by Mark Moses, and his adopted son Zach (Cody Kasch) as they get into an altercation during a car ride, driven by Mike (James Denton) who is Zach's biological father.

Paul takes a firm hand with Zach and sends him to rehab.

Meanwhile Lynette (Felicity Huffman), agrees with husband Tom (Doug Savant) that their twins Porter and Preston should move out on their own and learn to fend for themselves.

Guest star: Brian Austin Green, with Bree, played by Marcia Cross, also appears on the new episode

In real life, Eva has been making a point of getting out and about following her split from basketballer Tony Parker, and has been spotted on dates with 25-year-old Eduardo Cruz, brother of Penelope.

While reports out of the U.S. claim the pair are dating, her publicist dismissed the speculation, saying that they are 'just friends'.

Eva and Tony split suddenly in November amid allegations that San Antonio Spurs star had cheated on her with his team mate's wife.

Their divorce was finalised on Friday in a Texas court.
